An acquirer is a financial institution that manages the merchant credit card processing relationship, receiving all transactions from the merchant to distribute to card member banks. An issuer is the financial institution that issues credit cards to individuals or businesses.

How long does my merchant agreement last?

The majority of merchants qualify for month-to-month service agreements. Others are subject to a standard service agreement, typically lasting 3 years.

What is Near Field Communication (NFC) and how does it function?

NFC contactless transactions (such as Apple Pay, Samsung Pay, etc.) enable two compatible devices placed near each other to exchange data. Both devices must be equipped with an NFC chip for this to function. These transactions are highly secure as they generate unique digital signatures.

What is a payment dispute?

A chargeback is a transaction contested by the cardholder or the issuing institution. It can happen when proper card acceptance and authorization procedures are not followed. When merchants receive a chargeback, their deposit account will be debited for the specified amount. Additionally, the merchant may incur an extra fee if they fail to adhere to the correct acceptance and authorization procedures.

How frequently should I perform batching?

We suggest batching your transactions daily.

Should I connect my terminal using a phone line or an internet connection?

It depends on your hardware choice. If you opt for a phone line connection, ensure it's a dedicated landline to avoid interruptions or cancellations due to factors like call waiting or incoming calls. However, many businesses find it unnecessary to dedicate a landline specifically for terminals and instead prefer internet-connected terminals for quicker transaction processing.

When can I expect to receive my deposits?

We provide next-day funding & same day funding.(excluding bank holidays) with pending cutoff times for eligible accounts.

What does PCI compliance entail?

The Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) consists of requirements aimed at ensuring that companies handling credit card information maintain a secure environment during processing, storage, or transmission.

Why is PCI compliance necessary?

PCI compliance is mandatory for anyone handling payment card information, including acceptance, storage, or transmission. It is governed by the operating regulations of major card brands, which dictate the conditions under which merchants can operate accounts and accept cards. When you open an account with us, you agree to abide by these regulations. For further details, please visit https: //www.north.com/blog/pci-plus-has-arrived
